Dennoch ist der Mangold, botanisch Beta vulgaris, ein enger Verwandter der Futterr\u00fcben, Roten R\u00fcben und Zuckerr\u00fcben. W\u00e4hrend seine Artgenossen durch selektive Z\u00fcchtung stark ver\u00e4ndert wurden, behielt der Mangold weitgehend die Form, die er bereits in der Antike aufwies. Bis ins 18. Jahrhundert war Mangold ein sehr beliebtes Gem\u00fcse, geriet aber in Vergessenheit.
